IRS and Treasury Stopping All Paper Checks in 2026
On March 25, 2025, the President issued an Executive Order requiring the IRS and U.S. Treasury to stop issuing or receiving paper checks. Click Here to read the order.
On September 23, 2025, it was announced that the original September 30, 2025 deadline has been extended to 2026. This extension allows taxpayers to continue using existing payment methods, including paper checks, until further notice. The IRS will provide detailed guidance for filing 2025 taxes before the 2026 filing season begins.
