Pete Milward
First Vice President - Investments

Pete helps clients develop wealth management strategies from protecting and increasing wealth and preparing for future college educations to refining retirement goals. He and long-time colleague Grayson Prillaman established the Milward-Prillaman Group in 2000 and, along with Charlie Welfare, joined Davenport in 2007. He began his securities career with J.C. Bradford & Co. in 1981; was promoted to branch manager in 1991; and named “Manager of the Year” in 1993 and 1995. He also served as senior advisory council and his branch was recognized as the No. 1 office, based on revenue, in the Roanoke market for several years.

Pete’s philanthropic nature has led him to serve as president of the Botetourt Jaycees and on the board of directors of the Taubman Museum of Art, Roanoke Valley Speech & Hearing Center, Roanoke Valley SPCA, and the Saint Francis of Assisi Service Dog Foundation. He and his wife Kathleen of 45 years enjoy their home on Bent Mountain, as well as spending time with their daughter Heather, son-in-law Erick, and granddaughter Bria.

Grayson B. Prillaman
Managing Director

Grayson works primarily with high net worth clients providing individualized financial consulting and investment management services; he also serves on Davenport’s board of directors. As part of the Milward-Prillaman Group – established in 2000 with long-time colleague Pete Milward – he joined Davenport in 2007, along with Charlie Welfare. He started his financial services career with Crestar Bank in its management training program in 1993. Three years later, he joined J.C. Bradford & Co. as a Financial Advisor. Through a series of mergers, J.C. Bradford became UBS Financial Services in 2001, where Grayson continued to serve clients until joining Davenport. Grayson currently serves on Davenport’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors.

Active in his community, he is a member of St. John’s Church, on the Board of Directors of the Roanoke Valley Youth Soccer Club, and volunteers as a soccer coach for Patrick Henry High School. He has served on the board of the Shenandoah Club and North Cross High School, and has volunteered for the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce Backbone Club. Grayson was an All-American soccer player at Roanoke College and played semi-professionally for the Washington Mustangs, Roanoke Riverdawgs and the Roanoke Wrath following graduation. He and his wife Kit enjoy spending time with their children Elle, Louisa and Grayson.

Lavonia “Charlie” Welfare
Vice President — Client Services
Registered Client Service Associate

Charlie works closely with clients to develop wealth management plans and set financial goals while focusing on accumulating, protecting and transferring wealth. She has worked with Pete Milward since 1980 and Grayson Prillaman since 1996. In 2007, she joined Davenport along with Pete and Grayson as part of the Milward-Prillaman Group. Her investment industry career began in 1978 in the Roanoke office of J.C. Bradford & Co. She was promoted to operations manager in 1983 and was instrumental in growing the office into one of the largest in the Roanoke market. She remained part of the firm’s management team through various mergers until it became UBS Financial Services. 

An active member of her community, Charlie has volunteered in various capacities with numerous schools and sports organizations. As a single mother, she has devotedly raised her children Jenny, Jessica and Matt. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, reading and gardening.

Elena Stanton Herrera
Client Service Associate

Elena works closely with Charlie Welfare and Grayson Prillaman to support clients on their path to financial freedom. She worked for six years as a team lead at Wells Fargo prior to transitioning to wealth management at Davenport. Elena graduated from Virginia Tech in 2012. Her studies focused on international business and accounting.

Volunteer work is a passion of Elena’s. As a lifetime member of Girl Scouts, she enjoys supporting Troop 1912 on their trips and high adventure activities. Elena and her husband Daniel spend their time hiking with their three dogs, Jessie, Bella and Sybil.
