Robert Brailsford

Robert has over 30 years of experience in the securities industry. After earning a BA degree from Hampden-Sydney College, he worked professionally as a District Executive for the Boy Scouts of America. Robert began his career in the securities industry in 1986 when he joined Wheat, First Securities as a Financial Consultant. After completing the firm’s Professional Development Program and their Financial Planning Consultant Program, he was promoted to Investment Officer. In 1996, Robert was presented an attractive opportunity to join the Roanoke office of Davenport & Company. Through a series of promotions, Robert rose to become a Senior Vice President. He earned his Certified Financial Planner® and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor professional designations from the College for Financial Planning and regularly participates in financial planning continuing education courses.

Robert is very involved in the Roanoke community having served as President of the Kiwanis Club of Roanoke and the Roanoke Chapter of the International Association for Financial Planning, Senior Warden and Treasurer for St. John’s Episcopal Church, and Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 17. Robert and his wife, Trudy, have two daughters and a son. In his spare time, Robert enjoys fly fishing and skeet shooting.

John Mark Strother
Associate Vice President—Investments

With more than 22 years of experience in the financial services industry, Mark possesses an exceptional combination of technical, operational, client service and investment industry related skills. He earned his Associates Degree in Computer Administration/Programming from National Business College and worked as a Computer Support Manager with Ferguson Enterprises, Inc. Mark began his career in the financial services industry in 1995 with UBS PaineWebber as a Client Service Associate and Operations Specialist later developing a business partnership with another Financial Advisor. In 1999, Mark joined Scott & Stringfellow, Inc. and completed the Financial Advisor Training program earning the Financial Advisor designation. He also served as an Operations Specialist and trainer for new Financial Advisors. Mark joined Davenport & Company in 2001 to form a partnership with Robert Brailsford as an Investment Associate and Operations Specialist.

Active in the community, Mark has done volunteer work for City of Salem PTA, Boy Scouts of America, and Roanoke Valley SPCA Capital Campaign. He has also served as youth leader and musician at his church. Mark and his wife, Lisa, have a daughter and a son. His hobbies include playing drums and practicing martial arts.
