Jay Black began his career in financial services with First Virginia Bank – Commonwealth in Urbanna, Virginia as a Management Trainee in 1988. Shortly thereafter, he was recruited by Dominion Bank in Hayes, Virginia to become Assistant Branch Manager and Consumer Loan Officer. Building on his banking experience, Jay joined Wheat, First Securities in Williamsburg, Virginia as a Financial Consultant in 1991. A year later, he was presented with an opportunity to help establish the Gloucester office of Davenport & Company LLC. While growing his financial practice over the next year and a half, Jay joined Keith Hudgins to form the Tri-River Investment Group . In 2000, Jay moved his practice full time to the firm’s White Stone office, where he later became Associate Branch Manager. In October 2016, Jay relinquished his role as Associate Branch Manager so that he could concentrate solely on serving his clients.

Jay holds his Series 7, 8, 63 and 65 registrations with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and is licensed to sell insurance and annuity products. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Philosophy from the College of William & Mary.

Jay strongly believes in giving back to the community and has served in a number of leadership roles, including President of the Rotary Club of Mathews and Founding Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mathews Community Foundation. Jay was elected to two terms on the Mathews County Board of Supervisors, serving a total of eight years — two as Vice Chairman and two as Chairman during his tenure. In that capacity, he also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Virginia Association of Counties. Jay is a member of Kingston Parish Christ Episcopal Church in Mathews and served on its Finance and Endowment Fund committees, consecutively, for more than a decade.  A native of Mathews, Jay and his wife Lori reside in Moon.  Outside of work, Jay enjoys fly fishing the trout streams of Virginia.
