In 1967, Bob Giles excitedly accepted an offer from Alex Armour — a pillar of Davenport & Company who steered the firm for decades — to join him as his assistant. This venerated sage provided Bob with countless examples of work ethic and practicing the Golden Rule. Bob is grateful for Mr. Armour’s leadership and investment in him.
By the time Mr. Armour was ready to retire at age 93, Bob had been on his own as a broker for decades, but still finds joy in his mentor’s example that age does not require one to “retire” from helping and investing in others where he can. Bob is an investor at heart and enjoys looking for potential in all sorts of places.
